Cymax Is Shutting Down: A Checklist for Channel Gate and Freight Club Vendors

Cymax Group Technologies, the Vancouver-area company behind Channel Gate and Freight Club, is winding down after 22 years. If your furniture or home goods reached Amazon, Walmart or other channels through Channel Gate, or if your store quoted freight through Freight Club, this is the week to act. Here is what has been confirmed, what it means for your listings and cash, and a step-by-step checklist.

This is hard news for a lot of people. Cymax employed 135 people, and it was one of the longest-running ecommerce companies in British Columbia. It also served a large network of furniture manufacturers who depended on it for their online sales. This post is for those vendors. It is not about what went wrong inside the company. It is about what you need to protect, starting now.

What Has Been Confirmed

  • The company is closing. CEO and majority owner Markus Frind told The Globe and Mail he decided to shut the company rather than continue funding losses: "It made zero financial sense to carry on. There was no path to recovery."
  • 135 jobs are affected, according to the same report.
  • Cymax is preparing to file for receivership. At the time of writing, we have not seen a filing or a named receiver.
  • The first signals came from employees. Vancouver Tech Journal and BetaKit reported staff posts on LinkedIn in mid-October, including one from a senior leader helping with the wind-down.
  • Freight Club's website was still live, with no shutdown notice, when we checked on October 27.

What has not been announced: a shutdown date for Channel Gate or Freight Club, a transition plan for vendors, or a buyer for either platform. Plan as if service could stop with little notice.

What You Had, and What You Need Now

Channel Gate was a managed service. Cymax handled listing, optimization, marketing, customer service and fulfillment coordination across more than 15 channels, in exchange for a percentage of sales. Freight Club gave you quoting and booking across 35+ LTL, parcel and white-glove carriers with no subscription fee. Losing both at once leaves several gaps:

What the service did for youWhat you need to replace itUrgency
Your products listed and selling on Amazon, Walmart and other marketplacesYour own seller accounts, with listings you controlHighest, especially in Q4
Catalog content: titles, images, attributes, A+ contentA copy of that content you own, ready to loadHigh: export while you still can
Pricing, promotions and ad managementA pricing and ad plan for each channel you keepMedium
Customer service and returnsAn inbox, a returns policy and someone answeringHigh once orders resume
Freight quotes at checkout and shipment bookingAnother quoting and booking tool, or direct carrier accountsHigh if your cart depended on it
Payment for goods soldA clear record of what you are owedHigh: needed for any creditor claim

The Checklist

1. Find out who owns your listings

This decides how much you lost. Open a few of your products on Amazon and Walmart and look at who the seller is ("Sold by" on Amazon). If the seller shown is Cymax rather than your own company, the sales history and the offer belong to their account. When that account stops selling, your product page may stay up with no seller, or go dark.

If you have Amazon Brand Registry for your brand, your product detail pages and brand content are under your control even if the offer was not. If you do not have Brand Registry, start the application now. It is the foundation for everything else on Amazon.

2. Export everything you can reach, today

While your vendor portal access still works, download every report and file it offers: product catalogs, images, sales history by SKU and channel, open orders, returns, and any statements showing amounts owed to you. Save copies somewhere you control. Do not assume portal access will continue through a receivership.

3. Reconcile what you are owed

Build one spreadsheet: every order shipped, every payment received, and the balance outstanding. Include dates and invoice numbers. You will need this for any claim, and it tells you how big your cash gap really is.

4. Watch for the receiver and register your claim

In a Canadian receivership, a licensed insolvency trustee is appointed by the court. Receivers typically publish court documents and notices to creditors on a public case page. Once one is named, contact them, confirm whether you are listed as a creditor, and submit your documentation. Get advice from your own accountant or lawyer on your position. This post is not legal advice.

5. Replace your freight quoting before it breaks

If your Shopify, BigCommerce or WooCommerce checkout pulled live freight quotes through Freight Club, test it now. A dead quoting integration does not always show an error. Sometimes the checkout just shows no shipping option, or a wrong one, and customers leave. Line up a replacement quoting app or direct carrier accounts, and have a flat-rate fallback ready for your large items so checkout never breaks.

6. Decide which channels to relaunch yourself

You do not have to rebuild every channel at once. Start with the one that produced the most profit, not the most revenue. For many furniture vendors that will be Amazon or Wayfair, but check your own numbers. Each channel you run directly means your own account, your own catalog, your own customer service and your own cash cycle. If you have never run a marketplace account yourself, our guide to managing multiple channels from Seller Central is a starting point.

7. Plan for the cash gap when you sell directly

Selling through a middleman meant someone else waited for marketplace payouts. Selling directly means you do. Since March 12, 2026, Amazon releases funds for North American sellers seven days after confirmed delivery, which Amazon calls Delivery Date + 7 (DD+7). For large items with long delivery windows, that puts several weeks between shipping an order and having the cash. Model this before you restock, not after.

If that gap is a problem, financing against marketplace receivables and inventory is available to sellers in this position. We cover how it works in funding inventory when Amazon holds your money.

8. Measure where you stand before you rebuild

When a large seller leaves a category, its rankings do not stay empty. Competitors fill the gap within weeks. Before relaunching, find out where your products rank now on Amazon and Google Shopping, who took the positions you held, and at what price. That baseline is how you will know whether the relaunch is working.

The short version: confirm who owns your listings, export your data, document what you are owed, fix your checkout freight quotes, then relaunch your most profitable channel first, with a cash plan for marketplace payout timing.

A Note on What Comes Next

Cymax is not the first furniture ecommerce enabler to close this year. BetaKit reported that Toronto-based CommerceBear also appears to have shut down. Furniture brands have lost two outsourced routes to marketplace sales in the same year, and the reasons say something about where the industry is going. We look at that in why the marketplace middleman model broke.

For vendors, the practical point is simple. The marketplaces are still there. The customers are still there. What has changed is who runs the account, and the safest answer from here is you.
